Person-to-Person Mobile Credit Transfer

The Iris Wireless Person-to-Person (P2P) platform enables the transfer of airtime credit from one mobile postpaid or prepaid subscriber to a prepaid subscriber. Only SMS is required to initiate and complete the transaction, and no SIM or UIM upgrade is necessary; any SMS-capable phone will do.

Mobile subscribers benefit from the convenience of being able to borrow or buy prepaid credit from a fellow subscriber. This is particularly useful in emergency situations where the user does not have the luxury of finding a prepaid card dealer or top up kiosk.

Operators also benefit from P2P. Because it effectively extends the prepaid distribution network, turning every subscriber into a potential reseller, P2P accelerates recharge velocity, and subsequently increases ARPU; the faster the user tops up, the more services can be consumed. P2P also reduces churn, as subscribers with zero balances are the most likely to switch service providers. And, of course, P2P represents a new ongoing revenue source for the mobile operator, as subscribers are charged a fee for each P2P transaction.
